Here's my list for engine and boat maintenance. I had another list for sail and rigging. I should point out that, latterly, I kept my boat in France (300 miles from home) and it would have been galling to have had to buy something in France that I already had at home. Also the boat was old and had a lot of woodwork in her construction.

I had a fairly extensive tool kit on my boats but no mallets, adjustable spanners or crowbars. They were mainly used during the winter spring lay-up and fit out rather than on voyages although they did find use on more than one occasion on others boats.

Photodog late of this parish used to marvel at the never ending streams of various tools and expletives that accompanied their use when I was working on some aspect of boat maintenance.

I’ve changed my mind, Snap-On roll cab and top box as the bare minimum!

Yeah, have done that just now hahahaha *cries*.

Went to the boat, time pressure from hell and we had to rush everything, I hadn't even had a chance to test the engine beforehand. I had it on good account from both the previous owner and the boatyard themselves from months ago, plus a survey, that it SHOULD start, but you know how those things are.

Well, I arrive and all 3 batteries are fubar. Something was left running and drained them to death.

Had to buy a new battery to at least be able to start it. (which it then did right away once I hit the water) but that's when I realised, there isn't even a single spanner on the boat.

So I had to get a basic tool kit, like the absolute basics. Hammer, few screw drivers, clamps, spanner that sort of thing.

I also bought a saw to cut things if needed. Some underwater epoxy, a handpump (in case none of the boat ones work, that way I can at least pump by hand). Bit of spare wiring and a set of bolts.

I brought my own flotation device, headtorch and my very own handheld vhf.

So, from this experience this is the absolute minimum I'd bring.

I wouldn't bother with WD40. ACF50 is far superior, and leaves a corrosion-resistant and lubricating film behind.

3/8 drive set and also a 24mm if its not included
I'm curious - what's the 24mm socket for? All I can think of is the prop nut and, If I need to get involved with that, I'd say my delivery trip is over.

When sailing on other people's boats, I always carried a good multi-tool, plus another cheapo that had a small crescent wrench. I earned a good few brownie points with them fixing stuff.

I had a 24mm socket on board.

I can't now recall what it was for but I wouldn't have bought it if I hadn't needed it (do I hear a derisive snort from The Old Guvnor?).

Perhaps it fitted the cylinder head nuts or the injector.

I know, it looks over-the-top but I don't think there's anything there I hadn't used at some time.

To save myself from further ridicule, I won't publish the Rigging & Sailmaking Kit List. :D
Thank you for this list and I want to ask you explicitly to post this Rigging and Sailmaker list.
For me it is amazing how many tools one can carry and then you see somebody elses toolbox or -list and there is something you do not have yet.
I am not saying that one must have these items on the boat - obviously dependent on the boat - but the idea is what couts.
So if youreally do not want to trigger some minimalistic comments: please send it to me as private message.
Thanks.
