Gritters, What Gritters

At last the met office got it right.

For us here in N.Kent they promised snow late afternoon - early evening. For the last 24 hrs Meridian TV have been showing us piccies of huge great blokes alongside big Yellow grit wagons saying "were ready", "everythings in place", "were ready to go at a moments notice".

Late afternoon we get 3" of snow and the whole bl***y place grinds to a halt because YES you've guessed it NO GRIT?

Wife walked in and told me where I could find her car as she had abandoned it?

I went out later and drove for 10 miles, signs on Motorway saying "gritting in progress" I have yet to see a grit wagon. The motorways were gritted in places but the main feeder routes into the towns was definately un-gritted.

There was total chaos, not a bad result for the "we're ready brigade".

We have a particularly steep hill near to us and half way down there’s a speed camera, its there to catch unwary drivers and not because it’s an accident black spot. There’s a nasty rumour going around that the gritters stopped at the top of the hill and re-started at the bottom and a number of cars have been “flashed” doing more than 30 mph even though their brake lights are on and the wheels weren’t moving.

I give up? I suppose that someone will inform me in due course that if I want treated roads I'll have to pay an extra couple of hundred quid on my council tax to take care of it!

Oh ye of little faith

They got it right then - trust me I'm a politician.

By the way - these judges seem to have set a new standard. Its OK for the establishment (Bliar) not to keep minutes - but when someone else doesn't keep complete notes - then they are wrong. Don't know about you - but if I take notes of a meeting - I rarely put down the things that are totally obvious and memorable - I just make notes on the obscure items, which I would otherwise forget. So case for me not prooved. Report was so bright it was dazzling!
