My girl and I are considering getting on the water for next season. We would like a versatile sturdy trailerable sport cruiser that could sit on a hard for 6 months of the year and on my drive for the other 6 months where I could do some service work on it. We’d like to take it to the IOW and do some coastal cruising. We would like to have an occasional overnight or weekend on it. I have been looking at the Fletcher 19 gto. Also the Regal 2150. any suggestions? Planning to engage in a RYA handling course. done a RYA shore based Competent Crew. Safety first priority so would ease into gaining experience before extending offshore.

I’ll be first to suggest an Anderson 22, it is trailer/sailable, and does sail well. Bit cramped below, but no problem for two person cruising.
We used to trailer sail a Leisure 17, but eventually found a permanent mooring for it.
Trailer /sailing has advantages, but it does very much depend upon access to slipways, time to rig and de-rig each launch where to put tow vehicle and trailer after launching and what vehicle you have for towing.
I think it may have been a lot easier back in the late 60’s than it is now, but good luck any away.

Think he is talking about power boats not yachts.

Trouble is, powerboats tend not to be very 'cuddly'! ;)

Perhaps the OP would settle for a motorboat with a cuddy?

Sadly, I am not familiar with motorboats (or stinkpots as they are properly known around here), so can't help. Hopefully someone who is will be along shortly to help (or a mod might move the thread to the Mobo forum?).

Oh thanks. I didn’t make myself clear. It’s a Cuddy cruiser (motorboat) not a cuddly cruiser (Typo). No mast stepping or figuring to do. ?

I’m sure there will be hundreds of suggestions, but the first questions you’re likely to be asked to elicit sensible replies are likely to be Budget, Cruising area etc.

Anyhoo, welcome to the forum and happy cuddy, cuddly cruising.

if you havent already found them, take a look at Apolloduck.do.uk and Boatsandoutboards.co.uk.
Both those sites are good places to find entry level boats, since they’re generally self-advertised rather than sold via a broker.

and as Tranona says, you’re likely to get better informed advice about powerboats in the Motorboat forum.

I had a Fletcher 19 GTO sports cruiser and it was brilliant!

The hull cuts through the Solent chop well, has a loo, sink, water tank and safe cockpit which is self draining.

Easily trailerable with a Mondeo sized car.

The gto is rare as hen's teeth but it can sit on a single axle braked trailer. The GTS version needs a twin axle one.

Mine would do 27 knots 2 up on flat water with a Mercury 75 four stroke.

Fit a modern 115 efi and she will fly....

I used to take a Shetland 525(?) over from Portugal to Spain for a friend once a year to avoid the tax situation. Had a 75 hp and a 5hp kicker. Comfortable enough for two overnight with basic facilites. Room for more on a day trip. Easy to tow too.
