I've been looking at getting another boat and a couple that I am interested in have Perkins engines. But whats the difference between a Perkins 4107 and a 4108? Is one better than the other? I ask this as I'm down to two boats which I like equally but one has the 4108's and the other has the 4107's so it could all be down to engine choice.

Thanks..........Mike.

All that I know about the 4107 is that it is the older model preceding the 4108. From what I recall the perkins designation 4 is for the number of cylinders and 108 for the cubic inches. Without looking up conversion cu ins to ccs I think they are about 1.8 litres.

4107 will be pretty old by now - check spares situation. 4108s are getting a bit long in the tooth by now too.

They're both getting a little old now, but I do beleive the 4108 has liners and the 4107 doesn't or the other way round. Spares are easily obtainable for the 4108, so I would go for the one with 4108's. I seem to remember somebody almost re-manufactures these engines, can't remember who, but somebody here will!

Right Scottie, the 4108 has liners and the earlier 4107 doesn't. Damn good reliable engines (the 4108) and spares readily available despite their age. Loads of spares are available in tractor outlets as these engines also went to power tractors.
