Basic question: should one check the engine oil on a Volvo Penta MD22 with the dipstick resting on the top of the pipe, or pushed fully home?
I just discovered that the oil suck-out pipe does not reach the bottom of the sump on my MD22...
The VP manual tells you not to screw in the dipstick when checking the saildrive oil.
I've always done it pushed fully home, but two things have made me think it may be wrong:
[1] Now that I have fully drained the oil (see quoted thread below) I only get the correct reading after filling with 6 litres if I rest the dipstick on the pipe.
[2] The VP manual tells you not to screw in the dipstick when checking the saildrive oil.
Just got this from Clipper Marine:
"... I have always understood it just rest on the top, not pushed home."
So have I, but good luck; they normally say to contact your dealer. Disgraceful.I have emailed a question to VP...
Any news?I have emailed a question to VP...

The good news is I had a reply from VP. Unfortunately all they said was see page 27 of Owner's Manual, attaching a PDF copy...
I'm still waiting. Could you reply and tell them they haven't answered the question.
I'll try. :ambivalence:

Are you talking engine oil level?
No reply from Volvo Penta of course.
