Im about to re-fit a BMC diesel into my boat after a rebuild. My boat has wooden engine mountings attached to the hull of my wooden crusier.

What is the best way to fit the mounts? Using coach screws? or any other ideas? It is not possible to through bolt it.

Thanks

Alex

Coach screws are fine. If you are fortunate to find a local supplier you can buystainless steel ones. If not Galvanised will suffice.

For those not fortunate enought to get free coach screws.

You can set studs into timber with epoxy. I doubted the strength but a boat builder said they mounted primary winches using this system.

I did it once on a boat. Bought a length os 12mm A4 studding (a few quid from the local fastening shop) and cut it into eight lengths. Set in West Epoxy and Roberty was my mother's brother.

Coach screws is what we used, wound them into a nice bit of solid Oak that was glassed into the hull by brother-in-law ...

It was the bemused faces as we raised two scaff towers, laid an old boom and a bit of 4x2 between them, long laders to walk on (horizontal) and lifted the engine on a standard chain engine hoist before towing the boat underneath to lower into position .... if only we knew how easy it was we would've offered it up before finialising all the bearers ...
Someone had the cheek to mention H&S ... I suggested they didn't walk beneath the engine...
