Always looking to reduce noise on the boat, is there any mileage in lining additional insulation on top of the existing insulation to reduce noise further? Thanks Geoff
Depends what the first layer was like. Also depends what coverage you have in the first layer. If you have gaps or things that transmit noise through the insulation you would be better off dealing with those first. If the existing insulation is not high spec you could add another layer and it would improve matters.
If you do decide to add more insulation, there is a chap at most of the boat jumbles who brings along sheets of slightly damaged insulation, which he sells at around £20.00 per sheet. Two densities with centre sound deadening and aluminum??? shiney layer on outside. Also advertised on ebay.
Not your Vetus £80.00 stuff in quality but might close up gap or double up a large area
There was nothing wrong with my old stuff, but the inspector (for coding the boat) required ISO fire rated stuff so we installed that. It's good, but can't tell if it's any better than the old stuff.
