Electrical help needed..

Could somebody identify what the black box (underneath the consumer unit) with cables attached to the top is for me please, tried following the cables but it's like a snakes wedding.

Looks like a relay but the photo isn't great. Do you have a windlass or bow thruster?

disconnect the cables and see what stops working - be careful though as that looks like a windlas control box, so disconnect batteries first and tape the exposed cable ends.

Yes, has thin black and red to the coil, a heavy red in and out, and a heavy black, so it must be a HD relay for b/thruster or winch. If you want to investigate by disconnecting it you could disconnect just one of the thin coil wires rather than the heavy wires, but why not just put your hand on it and feel for a click/clunk when you operate the winch or b/thruster?

The wiring is a bit troubling there generally - the way it is all strewn about and not clipped, labelled and trunked...
