So I was on the way to getting a Temo and along came Kicker at 300 sobs cheaper but now the kicker is unavailable is the Temo that much better ?

Probably best to update you after a season of use but so far I am very pleased with it .
It is so easy to carry around and lock to the tender which was a priority
So after a year is the temo still good and how do you lock it to a tender. I've been looking at getting one for ages

Why the Kicker / Tempo rather than the more traditional electric motors like the Minn Kota? Big price difference all be it the battery needs to be added separately?

Minn Kota Endura C2 Trolling Motor
They are cheap - because they are cheap. Designed for a completely different application to powering a tender. Low thrust, made of poor quality corroding materials. The original use (40+ years ago!) was to hold boats in position while fishing in freshwater lakes in the US. Plugged into the main battery on the boat and used for short periods. Slightly bigger ones also used for trolling and backup in similar situations.

OK for short runs and occasional use but as many have posted here essentially "disposable"

Classic case of getting what you pay for.

Have one of the horrid nasty cheapo ones bought second hand and used with a heavy wet cell car battery on an inflatable.
It is ideal in non tidal waters with probably a couple of hours endurance at mid speed before battery goes flat.
Safe to use by the under 75s and joyfully quiet in operation.
It has been used in tidal waters for very short trips within sight of home vessel.
It receives vitally a fresh coat of Hammerite on the motor casing at the end of each boating season.
Has been used and abused for last 5 years or so without problems.
Have noisy smelly baby 4 stroke petrol Honda but will use the electric beasty out of preference if at practical .
Takes up no room at all, cares little about laying on particular side and does not leak fuel no matter how long it remains unused.
