I aquired my Eber with the boat, it had been profesionally installed by Krugers in 1994, and has always run okay so long as the batteries were well charged...since I was always short of battery power I therfore didn't use it that much.

Now as my batteries are all nicely topped up I thought I would run the Eber up to blow the cobwebs out ( BTW its a D3 model with an old style thermostat with the circular dial and rocker switch).

The fan starts and after a few seconds the fuel pump starts ticking away and I was expecting that afetr a short while I would hear the sound of the exhust as the fuel started to burn.

Trouble is it never fired up..it went though the cycle a couple of times, and I shut it down and checked the cable connectors etc, but to no avail.

Interestingly I could feel no heat with my fingertips on the glowplug top.....I would have expected this to have been hot even if the unit failed to fire..is that correct?

Any help would be gratefully recieved, also does anyone have a trouble shooting quide for the D3?

Many thanks, Nick.

Maybe the glowplug is stuffed or the "flame out" sensor is duff - or the overheat sensor is duff or ....

I have similar model. I tried to start it yesterday with batteries reading about 12.6v but it did not fire twice. (normally starts 2nd attempt without fail). I then started the engine and voltage read 14 v and the Eber started immediately. I am out of the water, but when I think about it I allways run the engine when starting the Eber.

Thanks for the manual Talbot....also for all the other suggestions.

I think that next time I go down to the boat I will run it through the start up proceedure with a multi meter on the glowplug and check that I can get a reading..if so it is probably the plug ..if not if all starts getting more complicated I guess

Regards Nick

all the probs boil down to simple solutions, voltage/amps and fuel. if it starts the cycle and ticks then doesnt fire it is NORMALLY lo voltage, if you have always had a prob starting look at the wire feed, it MUST be a big fat red and black. it could also be a fuel blockage, anything else is very unusual. so check voltage as its firing, if ok check the fuel line/filters, (the nut at the inlet to the tick tick pump) if ok check the voltage to the plug.
