Hi I've just bought a boat with a second hand D1LC heater installed. Whenever I run the heater it turns off after about 15mins use and doesn't restart. The green light on the rheostat switch then flashes green until the unit is switched off. It will then restart normally.
I've read through the manual but cant seem to find any mention of the rheostat light flashing. Is this normal or is it indicating a fault.
Thanks in advance
John

Not enough volts when light flashes either battery knackered or more likely wires not fat enough

Hi,

My D1LC did the same thing.
1) If there is a small black box connected to the wiring disconect it - its a timer.
2) the unit could be overheating causing it to switch off. Ensure there is pleanty of air where the unit is located. I had to fit a vent into the locker.
3) make sure the exhaust pipe and the combustion airintake pipe are the same length. - VERY important
4) you have a intake side and an output side. Make sure the intake is getting clean air which is not hot or heated. If needed add pipe to run elsewhere. If the unit is taking in a temperature that is the same, or higher, than that of the rehostat it will switch off until the temperature drops again.

Don't give up, once the problems are sorted, its fantastic.

Hope this helps.

OK, thanks for the answers, been on the boat over the weekend, but only just read your replies. It could possibly be the voltage so will check this carefully next weekend. Reread the manual, the codes are useful but unfortunately no description of the rheostat lights.
Once again thanks for the answers

The flashing light definitely indicates a fault of some kind, not necessarily low voltage. Agree most common cause is overheating if it is shutting down early but not necessarily. Unlikely low volts if it starts OK cos this is when it draws max amps All you can do are the obvious things like ensuring proper airflow and fuel supply (there is a little filter on the intake side of the pump that might need cleaning) Otherwise the best thing to do is to take the whole thing off the boat and give it to Kruger marine or someone like them to determine fault.
