I'm worried about the D4 heater installation on my boat. The hot air pipes run alongside the electrics and plumbing and seem to get *really* hot - is this safe? The exhaust from the heater is clear of everything, it's just the hot air pipes themselves.

Cheers,

Steve.

I have just installed an eber in a wooden boat and was concerned about the proximity of hot air ducting to the hull. My solution was to use standard mineral wool roof insulation, about 25mm, around the pipes.
This is held in place with B&Q 100mm aluminised plastic ducting which is used for tumble driers. Cut the wire reinforcing in a line down the length and it can be opened up and slipped over the insulation.
My ducting is only 55mm, but this should work on standard 60mm.

A neater solution is to use Thermaduct, which is a thinsulate product. They have a version for initial fit which is like a sock, and another version for retrofit, which is a wrap round.
