I'm not sure that the words 'friendly' and 'racing' go very well together, though I did once do a 'fun' regatta in Germany where protests were forbidden. Classic boats are not really my field but I saw a brief shot of 'Lynx' which I remember from my early days at Heybridge circa 1972. I think she may have been owned by Terry Swan and believe she was a 1/2-tonner from Holman & Pye.

They absolutely do. Even at the highest levels of competition life-long friendships are often formed between people who are fierce rivals on the water. And the social side of any event is also very important. For some it might be more important :D

That's why they need barristers at the RYA, just to keep the peace between friends. I've no doubt that romances occur too, though I can't say I've witnessed any.
