I'm not sure that the words 'friendly' and 'racing' go very well together, though I did once do a 'fun' regatta in Germany where protests were forbidden. Classic boats are not really my field but I saw a brief shot of 'Lynx' which I remember from my early days at Heybridge circa 1972. I think she may have been owned by Terry Swan and believe she was a 1/2-tonner from Holman & Pye.

They absolutely do. Even at the highest levels of competition life-long friendships are often formed between people who are fierce rivals on the water. And the social side of any event is also very important. For some it might be more important :D
That's why they need barristers at the RYA, just to keep the peace between friends. I've no doubt that romances occur too, though I can't say I've witnessed any.

It applies from dinghy sailing right up through larger craft racing. In dinghies one can be screaming at the other boat during a close race & buying the opposition a meal or a beer & partying together at the end . I always looked forward to meeting rival crews from bigger boats after a long distance race. Especially with those with whom I had a close tussle. Did not have to be at the front, just racing to beat my friends, so they had to buy the beers & suffer the bar punditry.

Lynx was built for Harry Crocker,
I remember racing against Lynx with Harry Crocker when she was new. She was a wet boat to windward. About 10 years ago I I chatted with the then owner as he was masticing the port side of the coachroof deck join as he had a persistent leak. Hope he was succcessful. For a wooden boat she still looked good that was over 40 years old.

The film was a lovely snapshot of the many classic wooden yachts that are being well cared for by dedicated owners.
