East Coast no more

Weird!

The advantage of the East Coast water being just slightly thinner mud than the land, is that you can't see quite how shallow it is.

Did you have to change your echo sounder to one that reads over 5m?

Didn't change the echosounder, though it took me some time to get used to those double digit depth readings.
At first I thought the decimal point was 'broken'.

A mate I sailed with from Cornwall to Ireland, made me twitch a bit turning off the echo sounder when we left Penzance harbour, and only turning it back on as we approached the entrance to Youghal... But there again, no depths had really changed from1947 charts that he had on board!

Crossing the Bay of Biscay (not the Gulf de Gascogne as the Froggies like to call it)

The poor echo sounder gave up .. chart said there was 3000 m below us.

Strange had exactly the same happen on our echo sounder crossing the Bay a few years ago, it 'recovered' later and I couldnever explain the odd readings.

The Bovril Boats loaded at Cross Ness on the south bank and Silvertown (yes, next to the sugar factory!) on the north bank, both up river from Barking, so the "Barking Treacle" moniker sounds a bit odd to me. I certainly always knew them as Bovril Boats. The job of master of tose boats was much envied - paid as a seagoing master, but home every night.

Peter.

Why did you feel the need to air your narrow-mindedness/bigotry on the ECF?
If you really must, keep that kind of thing for The Lounge (aka The Bilge).

Well, we finally moved from East to West. Now in West Wales, Milford Haven to be precise. Looking forward to new adventures with deeper water under the keel. I believe Full Circle came this way but from once being a prolific poster now seems to have disappeared.
Have fun with the new normal.
Full Circle seems to have been quite for about six months. New name Semi Circle perhaps?

Hi George

Glad Lea did the job for you, it's fascinating watching him use the remote control of his Hi-Ab.
If you need to use a boatyard to lift out, work on or store over Winter you are close to East Llanion boatyard.
They have good lifting facilities, there is an upholsterer there and a useful guy (Ryan RSJ Marine) who is reliable and competitive on price if you need work done.
All the best and good sailing.

John
I am at East Lannion now because you couldn't get a transporter down to Rudders. Been down to do some work but will probably not bother with antifouling again until next year. I think that there is storage ashore at Rudders boatyard included in the price.

1st post this year. Port Dinorwic in Y Felinheli is now home to Full Circle, and we havent sailed for 2 years come October. Full refurb of the old lady (15 years old now)will be done over the winter. We also have a Jaguar 21 lift keel called Tigger on Llyn Brenig reservoir. Anyone want a cheap Jaguar 21?

I remember when you bought her, your enthusiasm was energising for the forum and I hope that you get it back. I hope that Wales has been good for you. We are loving it here, but finding time for boats is challenging while renovation work is ongoing.

We had a complete house renovation and landscaping 1/3 acre then I have been quite ill for 8 months, but back working again now. We wouldn't move out of Wales just great here, and so we have cancelled our lifetime trip, Have considered selling Full Circle, and had 2 immediate offers on the rumour, but think we will be settled back into routine next year.

Blimey what a coincidence, I bought my Ben 343 lift keel on the back of your enthusiasm after reading your old posts. I have just walked past Dinorwic 5 mins ago whilst on my circumnav of Anglesey after sailing down from up North and spotted Full Circle looking a touch unused and thought I’d see if there were any updates on you. Not a stalker just grateful for the info you have shared on the lift keelers.

Waiting for a spot to become available next week to lift out

We are in the middle of a grade 2 renovation and a load of farm buildings falling down around us. We are working on a neglected farm as well, but all work and no play etc. So sailing still on the agenda. Hope we meet up.

Semi Circle was the name of my secondary luxury yacht, a Seal22. Mrs Circle demanded I sell it, so I did. But I sneaked a new one in called Tigger, a Jaguar 21 lift keel kept at Llyn Brenig.
