He went for the hard sell. People weren't giving him enough money. He wanted a better boat. He wanted to keep it in an expensive Clyde marina. Most people who watched his videos weren't clicking on the Paypal button and were just a bunch of freeloaders. Although I kept out of the thread I was offended by the last bit in particular as I'd been sending him cheques from time to time and I resented been attacked for not clicking on his Paypal button - it was strongly enough worded for that reaction.

As I said earlier in the thread I decided the best course of action was not to watch any more of his videos.

However, I hope he isn't driven from the forum again.

I totally agree. I too contributed to Dylan's excellent videos but was as you, miffed at his hard sell. Also I knew the price he paid for his last centeaur and the good profit he made on it. I feel Dylan's criticism on here was of his own making. Trying to embarrass people to pay more or start paying for a way of life he enjoyed coupled with expectations of where he wanted his boat to be kept, with the requirement of a fisher to further his travels tipped the balance with a lot on here who were sympathetic initially.
I don't think Dylan ever left here he just chose for reasons only known to himself not to post.

I love Dylan's videos and I hope he can repair his disastrous pr muck up and return to carrying on the good work

Ok I interested , how much do you guys contribute each month £1 month , £5 month ,£10 month , or is it just one contribute of say £5 a year because unless it's some great amount I don't know what all the fuss is about , we all know how much it cost to keep a boat so I doubt his making a living out of it ,
If so please let me know , I start charging for all the anchoring and cruising info I put on the internet :)

It's not worth flogging this dead horse. Some on here felt Dylan's attitude was wrong, others defended him. I hope he does make a living out of it as most of us just keep ripping up the £20 notes lol

Rude to talk of such things ;)

But felt it was worth it, I enjoy his videos and having dabbled very badly know just how much work and effort it takes to even get a very basic youtube together.

It's an interesting new form of media, brave of the producers putting themselves out for all to see (and criticize on here ;) )
But so much more honest than the bulk of corporate TV designed by committee. If you don't like what he says then turn off, why bother whining and moaning about it. :rolleyes:

Sent some to Delos as well, they produce such high quality material these days.

From both delos & Dylan I got such nice emails back, both coming across as very honest thanks.

Which is fine if people are prepared to pay for it.


There is a IMHO a good vehicle for supporting Dylan's work in Patreon.

3/4k worldwide followers chipping in a dollar or two per film would surely make it viable?

Particularly if we had shorter more frequent films, say 10-12 mins (I find the 20min ones a bit too long) and they were closer to his real time position and blogs.

A "supporter" could then have access to HD downloads and a wider range of Blogs.

Simples.

Personally I would also prefer a little less politics and a bit more sailing with an explanation of the particular passage in question.

Just my personal preference though.

I hope he comes back to the forum.

So going by your figures , it's no big bucks , coinciding he give a little of enjoyment back , SO what the hell is all the fuss about , if it's not sour grapes ,
As I said I not seen any of the guy videos , if people here don't like the way he comes over , don't watch and don't contribute.
Anyone would think reading this he making an 100K a year , a street bigger making more .
About time someone stops any more posting .

Thought we were moving on !!!. What use is a one sided debate. In the interests of everyone drop it then. I can move on.

Dylan Winter, Jellie Ellie and to some extent Snooks departed this place because they became targets of the same loose coterie of obsessive bores.

All three were far more interesting than the people that hunted them down.
DW in particular left after there was speculation about his lifestyle, income, and the value of his family home. Creepy, I think I would have gone as well, if not that, the repetitive, leaden humour would have finished me off.
