Expressing solidarity with our European neighbours? (Unlikely, I know.) August 15th is the feast of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary and is a public holiday in many nominally Catholic countries.

It would be interesting to know which the Navy is celebrating, VJ Day or a polite recognition of Indian Independence - or to ensure no-one is upset, both at the same time - as they both occurred on the 15th August.

With the amount of x navy personnel on here I was hoping for a bit of inside knowledge of the experience.
Dressed overall means stringing all the signal flags together and hanging them from one end of the ship to the other via the mainmast. There are a couple of suggested ‘sequences’ the signal flags are put in. The main purpose being to make sure they don’t spell out any message (rude or otherwise).

RN ships are typically’dressed overall’ to celebrate important occasions.
