It is with regret that I either have to get a new dp-g drive or go down the reconditioned route.
Obviously if I do get a new one then volvo will fit it.
Can anyone recommend any reconditioners.

Thanks for any opinions
Jon

I had mine reconditioned by a local Volvo dealer. After chasing the rabbit down the hole I wasn't far off the cost of a replacement. It seems the sum of parts is greater than the whole when it comes to cost and labour.
As for buying a reconditioned unit off the shelf from purveyors of such their costs are significantly lower but I always worry it's an assembly of mix and match old parts into a working whole and so the provenance (if that is the right word) is a short term win, long term gamble. I suppose you pay your money and take your chances.

Coastal Rides specialise in this sort of thing.

They are a bit Marmite but I have always found them decent to deal with.

If getting a drive from them I would suggest you get them to be 100% specific in writing as to what has been done to it - a repaint or a refurb.

Thank you for the replies - much appreciated especially quick as well.
I have after much consideration gone for a new unit from Volvo for a couple of reasons including piece of mind at the end of the day if you end up being in the middle of nowhere and the drive fails - money doesn't factor into the cost of life.
so hopefully I will be back in the water soon without further problems
thanks again

Can u say how much new ,fitted

Apparently the rear smaller prop bushes had corroded and forced itself into the forward larger prop after inspection it was found that the shaft of the rear prop didn't go in the opposite direction of the forward one.
One suggestion by volvo was to replace the bottom half but couldn't guarantee if the top half would be trouble free.
The cost of a bottom half plus new props was the near the same as a reconditioned full unit.
The difference between a reconditioned unit plus props and after fitting with 3 months warranty against a new unit fitted with new props and 2 years warranty was 5k.
When the drive failed there was 5 of us on board with an 8 year old.
Fortunately we were on a busy river and got a tow from the harbour master within 45 minutes.
The day before we were at the mouth of the river near to the North Sea.
Spoke to my insurers and they said as I didn't ground my machinery/drives are not covered.
So after weighing up the pros and cons - I opted for a new unit which are also covered on my insurance as the drive is new.
