Don't subscribe to Practical Boat Owner and save 100% this Christmas

Hmm... looking at the iPad version - UK = 3.99 GBP. Europe 6.99 EUR

I wish I could get 1.75 euros for each pound when transferring money from the UK!

The only subscription I have, or have ever had, is for the excellent Marine Quarterly.

However, I buy both YM and PBO pretty much every month. It gets read on the 2 hour commute, then binned. Yes, there's a bit of recycling of content, but always something interesting in there. I tend to prefer YM, as the practical articles in PBO are usually a bit useless, I find, but that's just me. Perhaps I'm useless.

I'll continue to buy these mags, but saving x% is of no interest to me. I just want to be able to pick up the mag as and when I want to read it, depending on which particular train station/marina I happen to be at.

I have the perfect solution, Tesco will refund for anything of unsatisfactory standards that you take back within 14 days.
Simply read the edition of PBO and return it using the above clause as a justifiable reason for rejecting the item.
Free PBO forever, this system may also work with YM and Practical Photography !

I have just renewed my subs to PBO - I think its a good magazine. Not quite to the standard of Motor Sport, but good nevertheless.

Practical Boat Owner could be a great magazine, if they looked at its name before considering articles.

It should contain practical articles for boat owners (see, the clue is in the name): how to fix stuff, how to build stuff, how to do stuff, new stuff to make the boat better/safer.

It should not contain articles about: The Solent (done to death), new boats (we've got one, remember?), our cruise to Whogivesashit (who gives a ...).
+1 - Stopped buying it as too many BS and / or recycled articles

Whilst I agree about the Solent I'm interested in new boats and other people's cruises; they both give my dreams a kick start on long motorway journeys.

I find the magazine keeps sliding off the steering wheel- do you have a practical solution to stop this happening?

I look forward to my PBO arriving every month, although I must admit i've supplemented it now with Yachting Monthly for reading material. PBO varies - sometimes I read it avidly from cover to cover and sometimes it only takes an hour or so to glance through the bits that interest me.

Sometimes the 'Practical' bit is a bit variable. Some of the complicated projects described are only relevant to a small number of readers and involve hours and hours of work that I would not dream of attempting.

BUT, being a women she will never understand the importance and attraction of getting your hands dirty and mending something

What ****!

What if that something is you? Just remember that if you go to hospital and the female nurses are patching you up...with comments like that the ladies of the forum might assist you in getting there quicker than you think

As with most I read it for the first few years when I first bought a boat. Now as and when the fancy takes me.

I agree there is not much "Practical" and DIY in it. For reading content a book works out better value.

The problem with PBO is that the Editor is a woman. Sarah is a top Editor and no arguments about that; BUT, being a women she will never understand the importance and attraction of getting your hands dirty and mending something, or building something or maintaining something. The publishers are of a similar mindset and it's only the likes of the hands-on nuts like David that keep what little practical stuff there is, to be found within. Having said that the latest issue is practical-rich so not all bad.

That certainly opened a can of worms .....
