Domestic battery test.

There's a thread about 3 down that includes a very clear set of instructions for testing a battery. An easy way to get a basic indication of condition is to disconnect it from loads, leave for several hours and measure the voltage, a good battery should show 12.6V or a bit more. There are lots of other tests that can be applied but you really need some degree of specialised knowledge (and equipment in some instances) to use them and interpret the data.

Have just spent time testing all my batteries. First simple test is to use a Hydrometer and see indicated specific gravity. This is a good guide but can hide a battery that may show good voltage at rest but fails when under load. Next step would be to disconnect each battery and Load Test them. Load Testers are not expensive and will tell you if the battery is good or on the way out.
