Presumably where you sail with your dog, there is never weather bad enough to make it dangerous to make a trip ashore in the dinghy. Lucky you.
I do like dogs, and would never willingly subject one to the confines of a yacht.
Where we sail with our dog in the last 12 months for example has been West coast of UK, Scilly Isles, Cornwall, Northern Spain, Portugal, Canaries, Windward and Leeward Islands and now Bonaire. With a 3.8m dinghy and 15hp we can go where we like. No issue finding somewhere to take the dog.
The dog isn't confined to the boat. They have beaches to run on, mountains to climb, sea to swim in. Our dog probably has one of the nicest lives of any dog. If you confine your dog to the boat and can't be bothered to take it ashore, you shouldn't have a dog.

My wife and I were once asked to sail someone's boat from Stornoway to Loch Craignish, taking their dog with us. No matter the weather conditions, the dog had to be taken ashore twice each day, to be emptied. Not only was this potentially dangerous and inconvenient, one cannot always assume that dogs are welcome. Never again.
I’m sure the dog felt the same way about such an inept skipper who took on a commitment without fully understanding his responsibilities.

What on earth makes you think that the skipper didn't understand his responsibilities? You know absolutely nothing about the circumstances leading up to the situation requiring the trip, so are not in any position to make a useful contribution.

Correct, but you raised to the bait… that if you don’t have a useful contribution to make to the original thread then don’t comment. Point made.

My useful comment is related to the fact that due to weather conditions, it is not always safe to go ashore in the dinghy. What was your useful contribution?

It's useful for people who think that because they have a 3.8m dinghy with 15hp they can go where they like, whatever the weather.
Are you sure of that? This was a thread about dogs going abroad. You seem to have drifted it in to all the reason why we shouldn't have dogs on boats. Now you want to tell us when it's safe to go ashore. Get a grip
