Does my Matsutec AIS Transponder need its own GPS aerial?

Op here. Cheers all, have ordered a GPS aerial and will report back.
If you've got the same one as me (the black box), you'll need a serial d-sub to usb cable in order to plug it into a laptop to set it up, which again you can get from ebay for a couple of quid.

My Matsutec came with the GPS antenna as part of the package: the antenna lives inside the boat, just under the side deck, where it works just fine. Surprised that your package didn’t include the antenna.

I'd suggest that the OP also try it below decks, rather than running cables outside. Very rare these days that they don't work inside.
