To a poor lock keeper ?

I have been given a little boat , its a sailing boat , but the mast has been lost somewhere. It was in a terrible state when i got it , and i have been cleaning it up . Just the varnish work to do now.

My plan is to use it as a day boat on the river , as it has no mast . However i don't have an outboard and sourcing one for sensible money is proving difficult. All the ones on Ebay get bid up into orbit or are a thousand miles away ( or both ).

So , does anyone have a 4 or 5 hp ( longshaft ideally ) outboard that they want to part with for sensible money. Any of the big names will do ( Yamaha , Mariner , Mercury , Suzuki ) , but must be no more than 20 ( ish )years old and reliable ( i see too many people that need towing out of the lock when they go to start their outboard and it just won't start again /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif ) ...

Thanks in advance everyone.

Here she is after a good wash ...

Put a big ol' chain on her now ! /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

She's really nice now Rich , i did the inside and patched up the cushions and generally tidied her up ! Put new stainless grab lines on today too.

What happened to your old Mariner 4 off the Zodiac ? that would do me a treat mate !

It would do you a treat however someone I know got a bit handy with the throttles on the mother ship whilst towing said Zodiac with 4hp and turned it over...(not on the Thames) long since died...

I shall keep a lookout my brother may have something I will email you

I have a four stroke 4hp "Jetmarine" lump that I bought brand new last year and haven't really used. It was for my Walker Bay 8' tender, but tbqh it's a bit too big for it

I gave the dude about £450 for it, I don't want to throw it away but could probably put a couple of quid down to experience to make room in the garage, it's probably literaly done about half an hour's running. PM me if you're interested in talking about it.

Probably down your way for the Thames Ditton Regatta at the w/e, although not a million miles away anyway

Thanks anyway , but about £250-300 more than i want to spend ... /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

I was thinking one of the multistripe Mariners , or one of the blue yamahas , or a silver suzuki with the old blue lettering ...

I just haven't got £400 ish .... sorry.

Ne'er mind; shame really, it's a very smooth litte engine, perfect for your boat.

You need to photocopy a few visitors licences and sell them to unsuspecting punters (-;

We'll all keep an eye out for you then /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Ebay is a good place to look. Especially longshaft stuff, which is no good for Inflatables, and hence popular /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Far be it for a moboer to make such an outrageous suggestion, but if you can get a mast, boom and racing sails from someone who's scrapping an Enterprise, I reckon you could have a rag and stick set-up on your hands...... /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

I've got no idea how to sail , and i suspect that the reach below Teddington Lock maybe isn't the place to learn. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

I wouldn't mind a mast for it though , to complete ' the look ' , i'll start asking around.

Hi Teddington, not sure if any use to you as it is short shaft. I have a 4rHP Mariner, 2006 in my Garage, doing nothing and serviced last year and then not used.

Your are welcome to borrow it until you get sorted as we only use it rarely having purchased a 2.5 hp suzuki that is better for the kids from a speed point of view on the dinghy lol.

let me know

Cheers

Nick

Thats very kind of you !! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I have a bid on one on Ebay , and a couple more that i have expressed interest in . I'd rather have my own one if i can , that way if i drop it in / ground it / break it etc etc it's on my back ... i'd hate to wreck someone elses engine.

I will bear your very kind offer in mind ! Many many thanks.

I have to finish the boat off , the varnishwork and i'd like to get some antifoul on her before i use her.

I'll let you know !
