We had a bit of an incident yesterday when it came under Windsor bridge yesterday and are struggling to get anywhere with finding out about it and wondered if anyone can help?

The boat came under the bridge downstream with far too much power (we are not just talking a little) in order to push the back down and ensure it cleared under- well assuming that is the reason and not just showing off! The resultant wash was something quite spectacular and as we were moored at Cote brasserie just the other side our boat was thrown all over the place.

We have sustained damage to the boat so wanted to contact the owners if possible on that front but also to alert them to the danger it poses. There are tiny hire boats with families in with no life jackets throughout that bit of water and if one had been the other side of the bridge like we were it could thrown young children- or indeed adults- in the to river easily.

Also had we been on the boat (not just watching in horror!), the consequences again could also have been so much worse than damage to an inanimate object. We have an 7 month old son and had we been holding him would have fallen without a doubt or it doesn't really bear thinking about what would have happened with a boiling kettle on the stove.

We have spoken to the Environment Agency who referred us to the police who have referred us to the Environment agency again. We tried to get through to the locks yesterday whilst it was progressing downstream but none answered. We are at a bit of a loss as to what to do therefore. Any help wou;d be very much appreciated.

Rings a vague bell, but can't place it.

Do you know make / model of said vessel?

Also, notify your insurance company. Even if you don't intend to make a claim, at least register the event with them. Take lots of pictures of the damage as it is now.

If you can identify the culprit, your insurance company may be able to recover costs from them in the event you do eventually make a claim.

If damage has been caused to your boat , then it is a police matter.

The police will contact the ea to get details of the boat ( assuming the ea have them ) and investigate , be prepared to give a statement , you won't be able to do this anonymously. The ea prosecuted someone for causing damage from excess wash recently at Henley , so it does happen.

The ea will not release details of the owner to a third party , even if they do have them.

Thanks for the advice. The boat was a Sealine (possible 34) hardtop as far as we could work out. one of the reasons I posted here as because we were going in circles between EA and police.

The EA told us to speak to the police and when we tried to report it to Thames Valley police they spent a long time and said that as it was on the water it was nothing to do with them as they could not enforce anything and did not see that it amounted to criminal damage.

What we have done now is report it as an incident to the EA who said they will then investigate but we can not still obviously find out who/where the boat actually is. They said again the police should help so maybe will try them again. We have independent witnesses who were fellow diners so it would be good to get it followed up by EA as it was so dangerous.

We tried lots of marinas but no luck, I am wondering if perhaps to try some locks while it is quieter this week and see if a lock keeper might be familiar with it to at least narrow it down to an area it is based in.

An outrageous response from Thames Valley Police, I suggest that you try again as it sounds like you were unlucky with the person who answered your call. If he/she was correct/knew what they were talking about, I could turn my boat into a crystal meth lab and Plod couldn't touch me on the water. Yeah right!

'Thames Valley police they spent a long time and said that as it was on the water it was nothing to do with them'

Nonsense.

AJP.
You need to speak to the old bill again and not be fobbed off if you want to pursue it.
Similar happened to a very good friend of mine and the police attended and spoke to the offending boat and crew one evening last year when the numpties reached Boulters Lock.

I will try them again!

The person that I spoke to also went to speak to her supervisor. They said that as it was 'speeding' that caused the damage and they could not enforce speed limits on the water then there was little they could do.

At this point I would ask for names and numbers from the police and thier civil representatves and let them know that comments, verbal and otherwise, will be included in your insurance claim.

Complaints really need to be put in writing to all parties likely to be able to assist you in your quest. Some letters may fall on deaf ears but you need to get some off now to all and sundry..
Email or phone calls are easy to deflect/lose/dump in the long grass.
Be prepared for a long and tedious wait but it is the only course of action that will result in a satisfactory outcome from your point of view.
Have you had look round for any video cameras likely to have recorded event.
Memory can play tricks on the recall of the events, three people will give 4 different accounts of what actually happened.Thinking about the name of the boat in particular ,easy to get part of it wrong.
Strange that no trace of boat this size and name has shown up anywhere.
Good luck.

It won't be a Sealine S34 hardtop as they never made one :)

Perhaps an SC35?

Recently was spectator at a bit of an alterction and was convinced had a fairly good idea of what went on....having later watched a video recording of the events,my recollection was totally at odds with what actually took place. !
