Does a \"U\" turn mean...

If we vote NO to the European constitution does that mean that we don't loose the right to govern our own taxation and continue the right to allow non comercial boats to use reduced tax fuel?

As far as I know, the key stance of the UK gov is that there are several non-negotiables viz the treaty, including right to domestic tax law. So, in answer to your question - No (er I think)

Think you'll find by the time they have fannied about with the timing to their advantage, "spun" every issue to such a degree no one will really remember why the hell we're having a vote and the question is posed in such a way as to look simple yet actually be so complicated, that you vote one way which actually means you voted the other. By then so much time will have elapsed that the derogation has ended anyway.

Does anyone think that perhaps I am getting a little cynical for one SO young?? !!! Paul

This government has a history of spin and a very recent history of ensurin that the question to be asked was so narrow that the only answer would be in their favour (iraq enquiry).

No - taxation remains a "red line" which Gordon B won't allow Brussels to cross and will not form part of the constitution which TB will agree to - that won't stop GB raising duty on marine diesel however whilst blaming it on the need to harmonise duty with our European partners - it's a convenient red herring -watch what happens to alcohol duty at the same time - it will stay resolutely the same at a level well above the European average. GB wants your cash and will raise duty on marine diesel unless the boating lobby has sufficient clout in key constituencies to make that an unwise decision.

Yup, tax harmonisation will only mean harmonising tax upwards but Grabber Gordon does'nt need any form of constitution to use this an excuse. He already uses the phrase 'in line with our European neighbours' every time he raises any tax rate
What I find amazing is that most of the country is still swallowing this horseshit

Trouble is that most of the country now seems to be claiming some sort of benefit so they think how wonderful without realising that they're actually worse off.
