Do cats make you sick?

Mine is often sick ... thats the trouble with long haired ones... fur balls

Anyway hirondelles are swallows , not cats

They make my other half sneeze.

Seriously though. You cannot avoid sea sickness with a cat and in some cases the movement is even worse with a beam sea which lifts one hull and then the other in quick succession.

Once you get marinized they are probably better and more stable in an anchorage.

My brother had a Hirondelle. It was great for room inside but very uninspiring to sail, no feel and, for me, no enjoyment.

The only time I get sick in my cat is when I get the bills!:encouragement:

are you more, or less, likely to get seasick in a cat?

There is certainly a more jerky motion in a cat but in general it is more level with no rolling. going to windward (or trying to) in a cat is certainly more uncomfortable than most monos depending on the seastate of course.

My dear SWMBO has always suffered since little and consequently would only sail locally with me on short inter island trips, but this winter she caved in and joined me in the Canaries and completed passages between the islands here, the longest being 75 miles, without being seasick or even feeling iffy. In theory we were going the wrong way through the islands as well which didn't help as she had to put up with some quite unpleasant windward passages but she coped and even went below making lunches and cuppas.

I used to get very seasick (as quite a few YBW Cherbourgers can testify!) however thought I was 'cured' having sailed about 20000 miles..... Got to Richards Bay South africa, met some locals, went out on their catameringue- got the sickest I've been in donkeys years. However it was pretty lively weather with huge lumpy swells.

Hi

Swimbo used to crew on our racing cat (18ft long with a trapeze) with no problems however we moved and our new club at the time raced only dingies, Swimbo was as sick as a dog as soon as she got in the new Graduate ! and never sailed again in a small boat.

Cats tend to be like marmite you either love or hate, try one and find out.

Regards -

When you are leaning on your ear and going nowhere fast then a sleek cat comes past flat as you like going like a train...

Yes cats do make you sick...

I have only ever been on one cruising cat in my life - Iroquois - one hour across the wash

Seasickness is a funny old thing and at least part dependant on things like your state of mind ( ask "do you fell sick" and you will) plus issues like stress , tiredness, previous nights alcohol, being cold. No doubt you can be sea sick on a cat but we always found our cat a bit better for that issue than our monos. One good point was that you didnt have to go down into a deep dark mahogany dingeon a la Westerly in order to navigate

The motion of early cats is different to recent ones. The HT for example has corved hull profile fore to aft and hobby horses a lot.

No simple answer but at least as good as a mono.
