I'm contemplating making some DIY spray dodgers. The Pointnorth brochure having arrived.

I was wondering if anyone has any crafty tips on cutting the letters for the name. I was thinking of laser printing a template (back to front) and then spray mounting the template to the back of the white acrylic. The carefully cutting.

Any other ideas ???

Has anyone been able to buy letters ready cut?

Hawke House 01329 668800. They print them on the plastic. You then cut them out and sew them onto the dodgers. Or they will do the whole job for you. If you sew them yourself you will need a swing neddle m.ch and a denim size needle which if I remember is size 14.
Best of luck

I had to makes some letters when I changed the name of my boat. I scrounged some plastic from a kind sailmaker. It isnt really difficult to make the shapes of old and new letters match. Draw the shapes on the plastic with a water soluble marker pen and take it from there.

Ready cut letters ....

mine were supplied by a Sailmakers to size required. I then got a local friend who is a seamstress to sew 'em on. All in all reasonably cheap and letters were well sized and look as though were professionally done.

Another way is to use Solartex - a model covering material that is heat sensitive supplied in sheets / rolls .... at mild temp will stick to another material, set at warmer and it will shrink .. so only enough heat to activate glue on back. Once in place .... sew through to make permanent.

This guy does stick-on letters for £1 each.

However he also does just about the cheapest dodgers going so you might think about just how much you are saving by DIY...

Kyospruce do pre cut letters. THink you can find them on Google, they also do fabric which as I recall were cheaper than Point North as I have always chosen Kyospruce for that reason! Kyospruce/Kayospruce.
