Which oil do I need for my Petter Mini Twin? 10W 40 is easy but what about the spec, API-CC seems hard to find, will API-CF do any harm? Oil seems to range between 3 and 22 quid what's that all about?

ooh, it's all about making a few quid. If you have a fast car it just hasd to have stuff that costs 20 quid a litre.

Actually, i reckon that easily the very best thing that you can do is change oil as often as poss. I had a motorcycle once and changed the oild every 500 miles for the first 5,00 miles, had almost unbelievable mpg.

Slow old diesel engine the oil spec is less relevant than high revving thing. For api blarney have a look at http://www.marly.com/en/infos/classhuil.htm

API-CD is fine for most naturally aspirated yacht diesels. Yanmar recommend that grade for my 30GM. Most of the cheap stuff sold in car parts shops and Halfords seems to be CD and providing you change frequently your engine is unlikely to suffer by it.

At the risk of starting another "bore glazing" argument, using higher grades in cold-running engines may lead to higher rates of bore wear.
