Give Malcolm Morling a ring - 07900-692 345. He's based in Gosport, but might be persuaded to travel. He won't do a major rebuild, but would be able to help with diagnostics and lesser repairs & won't cost the earth.
Health warning: He's a good mate, so I might be biased!
I have the phone number of one of Peters ex engineers who is now based in Birdahma pool. Just done my service and was very thorough. PM me if you want it.
I've not had good experience of JC. We were after an ignition switch for a MD5a to be told that we couldn't get one .... so we went to an outboard place on Hayling, explained the switch workings and picked an equivalent one off the shelf....
I believe JC is like one of the "sucking teeth" plumbers ...
Thanks for the contacts everyone. The reason I didn't do the obvious is that I hoped to find an individual who wasn't supporting only himself but the MD's Jag, the rent and rates on a big workshop and admins beauty treatments. Hopefully therefore a bit cheaper - and recommendations always best anyway.
I'll second that. Last year his mechanic chipped my gel coat at the companionway, presumably with his metal tolbox, left my aft cabin berth cushions in a dirty state and the oil filter seal failed after 2 months. Never again. I now use W.B. Marine.
I have read all the comments regarding all the engineers and have to say it only goes to show one thing, nobody can please everyone all the time. I think the way some of these comments have been made is quite unfair. I have had most of these engineers work in my yard at one time or another and for every 1 bad comment there is many more good ones. Please remember whilst the saying says "the customer is always right" we all know this is not always true!!!! Wiggy please also note the engineers at Hayling have also always looked after your brothers boat and he has always been more than happy!!
