First of all, a big thanks to the kind souls on this forum who helped us into right direction in solving the issue.

After many phone calls and emails we decided to give Yachticon a go ( http://www.yachticon.de/Water-tank-...ut-Of-Drinking-Water-Tanks-10-Litres::88.html ). Mainly because it was available locally for a quick fix.

My brother poured 30 liters of the said product into the tank, filled it up and left it there for 32 hours (the longer the better, we were told, 12 hours being the minimum). He then rinsed the tank a couple of times, filled it up again and this time poured in Puratank.

After another 24 hours I came along and rinsed the tank a couple of times.

So far so good, there is absolutely no smell of diesel or anything else in the water, which is good of course. The only downside thus far is the sinkfull of foam that forms when the tap is run for a longer period of time...

However, this is diminishing as we go through the tanks and fill ups.

I'm assuming that Puratank is not the source of foaming, so it must be the remains of the first? If anyone has used Puratank, I would be delighted in hearing if this actually is the case.

Based on the result so far, it seems that the stuff did what it said in the tin.
