Diesel heaters now £75

Builder won't fit non CE approved heaters, that's the real reason, neither would i (for a customer).
It is possible to source CE certificated ‘Chinese’ heater, Paul: Lavaner Pro. They cost closer to £200. They still come with a non-sealed (vehicle) exhaust.

We’ve got one and it came with copies of a CE and TUV certificates from the same TUV lab in Germany. The manufacturer claims higher build quality and QC to comply with the certifications.

Puts it at a price point between the uncertified models and a Planar. But one distinction is that the certification is for for auto installation only (as per the dodgy silencer).

But there are Chinese OEMs options with CE marking.

I dont suppose there's any chance of us not doing the Chinese heater thread all over again?

The pros and cons are well known by now, and there are several threads on those pros and cons, can this thread just be used to discuss new points regarding Chinese heaters Like the new cheaper price which was why the thread was started, and not just another argument between those who like them and those who don't.

Neither side of the argument is going to convince the other side to change their mind so can the protagonists just agree to disagree?
It's just another thread and the title is bound to raise discussion. If you don't fancy it you can just skip the thread.

You know that about a third of the posts in this thread seem to be along the lines of “not another thread on this” seemingly not realising that when you reply to a thread it moves it to the top of the pile and therefore more likely to be opened, and almost everyone who already replied gets an email meaning they are more likely to post again. It’s how YBWs business model works - engagement = more ad revenue.

The question was, why are there no production boat builders fitting £60 Chinese heaters.
Was that the question. I thought rather than answer the question in the True tradition of this Forum I would just say what I thought I would say at the time. Just like most on here including you

I would suggest these heaters are for 'practical boat owners', rather than the 'impractical' ones - so perhaps this thread is simply on the wrong forum.
Actually it was way more simple than that. It was to alert people to the fact that an excellent product was now far cheaper than it had been (y)

Maybe because some still think buying the most expensive item means its the best ?
A buyer of a new boat would want a good manufacturers back up, you're not going to get that with China ebay items.
Boat owners that can't fix their own boat will buy the expensive heaters as they rely on professionals to work on them.
The compotent boat owners will often do the cheaper route as they have the skill set to fit and repartition their own gear .

Or because the Chinese heaters are not certified, I can't imagine any builder or professional would risk installing an uncertified heater. I guess it could impact their insurance too or open them up to legal proceedings in the event of an incident.

Yup. No OEM builder or fitter will deal with anything non CE approved. Nothing to do with likelihood of an issue but IF something bad happens the fitter / builder would be in big trouble..
But that said, these days Lavaner Pro are CE approved and if you want to veer towards Latvia, Planar/Autoterm are also approved. I still think the 'name brands' are Webasto / Eberspacher so that's what a boat builder is gonna fit. It's still the 'done thing'. That's my guess.

I suspect you are correct. There is nothing to stop builders fitting Planar, as they are CE marked and, in my opinion, as good as Ever/Webasto (if not better) and a fraction of the cost.

Planar are still referred to here as 'the Russian ones' with the impression they are somehow inferior or a bit of a gamble. Hopefully that'll change. Healthy competition can only be a good thing, both in quality and price.
