I was thinking to place it near where the fender is. Is that a good place? The diesel heater is located right at the back and there is access.

Yes, I think that is what I will do, and I will bung the hole when sailing.
Possibly teaching you to suck eggs, but please ensure you have a foolproof system for ensuring the bung is removed before the heater is lit; I suspect the back pressure will extinguish the heater anyway if the bung was not removed but I would hate to think of the consequences if it didn't.. (tbh I don't feel that the bung is necessary)

I don’t think you need to bung it, but have a swan neck loop in the exhaust above the skin fitting - it’s what I and presumably thousands of others have.

In an ideal world heater above exhaust is probably preferable but often difficult to achieve.

You should have an EXHAUST DRAIN ELBOW at the lowest point in your exhaust.

The bungs sold for resealing wine bottles after you open them fit nicely in the standard heater exhaust fitting.
I don't think that would get past any reponsible health & safety check.

Fir the proper exhaust drain instead.
This one is for sale on fleabay.

Make sure you route the exhaust with a swan neck,Eberspacher recommend a minimum of 30cm obove water line,so you may have to lower through hull slightly to get the swan neck pointing down,no need for the drain unless its a long exhaust as it just drains condensation if any,no need for the bung.Google Eberspacher marine fitting guide.
