Horrible isn't it?! I've seen a few pics of it, and it looks horrific like that. However keep in mind that once the diesel is drained out, all you have is sludge and it's no longer in suspension. With the dipper it's supposed to be most effective at sea because the swishing about has it in suspension where the dipper can suck it out and do its thing to separate it. Look in this vid when he sprays something and agitates it how much easier it becomes.
I took some more sludge out at the weekend, I had the dipper running while I was replacing the belts on both engines and then went to it when I'd finished. I've nearly filled a 500ml bottle with the sludge just sat in port, to think that the stuff can also be acidic, I've seen quite a few posts and photos since of welds on tanks with pinhole perforations where the acid has attacked them. I'm very pleased to have fitted this, just based on what it has drawn out already to date. Looking forward to seeing what it will draw out in total.
