Detering swimmers

I’ve always found barbed wire adequate. If nothing else, the wire jackstays we had on our last boat was very effective in making intruder run the risk of getting some interesting fractures.

If we tied an arc of floating net, say a foot wide around the sugar scoop It'd become very fouled.

Swimmers would be reluctant to cross it, but approach by dinghy wouldn't be affected

Might need to experiment a bit with attaching it to get the foul net to sit just right.

Maybe I'm worrying about nothing.

Taking an opposite view. If you fell overboard and came close to another boat, you would naturally try to get out of the water and then try to attract attention to be rescued. Having pulled someone out of the water after their pram dinghy overturned, I can vouch many yachts are very difficult to get on board once in the water. So would the OP would prefer a fellow boat owner to drown?

People, mainly teenagers love jumping and swimming in the harbour. A few of them misbehave and clamber on the boats. Not usually nefarious, more of a nuisance in general. Sometimes though downright disrespectful, and occasionally over the years doing damage.
out of interest - could I ask where the harbour is ?

does this happen in other places too ?

I'd say a lot of harbours suffer it, do not swim in the harbour signs with threats of fines for doing so are ignored (or used to hang up towels).

Some teens are encouraged by older siblings, even their parents (who jumped into the harbours when they were kids and don't see any harm in it).

Now I dont mind them swimming, its their fun and their risk. But just have some respect for the boats.

Perhaps some old. Rope loaded with hull polish dangled accross the scoop. Would be horrible to grab onto but wouldnt harm the surface?

As so often, this seems to be largely a modernity ting, since scoops are in the scope.
So not having a scoop might be smart.
Go old enough and you might be able to avoid balsa cored decks too

Sounds like it could work

MIGHT be a risk of stimulating hull fouling though.
