I recently made a catch for the tailgate of the truck out of 6mm stainless rod using only the vice and a hammer. It is quite a complex shape but it worked out well. Your project should be fine.
\I have also done it that way but the hammer can damage the round rod

I have a bending machine as below

ebendr001_a.jpg

A heavy vice with a piece of small tube should bent the SS rod in to quite sharp bend

The ___⋂______⋂______ shape has 4 x 90-degree bends which should be no issue but the 180 could be difficult depending in the height and the distance between the vertical pieces.

Do you have the dimensions you need and can try it out for you

I do have a hydraulic press, but I would need to make a press tool

I made a little bending tool to make drink holders also from 5mm stainless and I could make one once I have the sizes you need
It's to make a new frame on which the pots sit on top of my cooker. The original was made of mild steel, painted, and has rusted terribly. It's so bad that the stainless steel top of the cooker is covered in flakes of rust as soon as I use the hob again, no matter how often I clean it.

Viewed from above, the frame is 4 longitudinal wires and 4 latitudinal lengths of 5mm steel wire.

It's easy to make the frame so that, viewed from the side, the legs cross like this:

But in that case the pots won't sit flat.

Consequently it's this kind of bending effect I'm trying to achieve:

(Please forgive the amateurish drawing)

There needs to be four of these U's along the length of the wire.

I'm only presently at the stage of pondering how this could be done, but I don't think it's an easy job. I fear it may even be impracticable, but would welcome any advice.

Ok I think I see what you are trying to do.

To try to bend a 5 mm rod like that you indicate will need a lower tool and a upper tool with a rod and a top to ensure the upper rod end up straight.

I would not do it that way I did some thing similar on my gally gas hob 4 burner as below

On mine the pan support are the zig zag bars the cone to a point over the burners

The pan locaters are also of a zig zag design that clamp onto the bars around the side of the hob such the zigzags can be moved in or out to clamp the pans in place, The whole hob is gimbled with locking pins as can be seen on the second pic

Thank you very much. I'll have to give some thought to doing it that way. I got so caught up in the difficulty of the bending that I didn't consider any other possibilities.

IMO, the beer and wine go in the bilge. It's cooler there. On my last boat there was a very handy floor next to the galley that was easy to lift and easy to keep spotless. Is there a spot that can be painted and kept nice? A mini wine cellar.

Yes, a book shelf is a must, even if modest. Sailing is an anachronism and so is turning the pages of a book. I enjoy both.

Some heavy wine drinkers on this site....my advice would be that after emptying each bottle, refill it with water....so the boat retains it’s trim

Do I sense the genesis of another FAMOUS FRED, akin to the epic 'Best Anchor' saga..?
