Last season I had a lot of trouble with the reading on the depth sounder, it kept locking up and would then free itself some time later. This would happen at various speeds up to max. 22 knots. The transducer is inside the hull, and is full of liquid.

Is it possible to fit a new transducer only, and connect to the existing display (Incastec), or should the whole sytem be replaced. The boat is ashore at the moment, so does it make that much difference in having a through hull set up.

I realise the above is basic stuff, but your advice is appreciated.

depth sounders are normaly fitted to the forward section of the hull and dont like air gaps between the transducer and the water..so any high speed will proberbly cause bubbles of air around the transducer and it will lock out untill it gets the next acceptable pulse..thro hull fitting transducers are best imho..but ones fitted as is yours are the norm and work well..at 22knts one would normaly be in deep water with very little time to avoid a shallow obstruction..

You can fit a new transducer but make sure the one you fit is the same frequency as yuour Incastec. Before going to that trouble I would however make sure the one you have is in place correctly and there are no air bubbles twixt the head and the hull as this may be the problem.
