I also have a French anchor test, probably posted by yourself, that placed the Kobra II above the Spade. I think that is the only test of the many I possess in which the Spade did not come out top. The Kobra may be better than the Delta(?) but I find it difficult to imagine it out-performing a Spade.

I remember Kobra getting the comment that it was the best value for the money but I never remember it beating Spade outright. Spade, iirc, had about twice the straight line holding power.

Here is what I posted in 2012.

IIRC, Kobra got the mention best value for money but I cannot remember it out-performing the Spade.

I have avoided anchor threads before but am forced inside today so you have my pennyworth
I've used all sorts of anchors for all sorts of boats in a variety of conditions including the ' 87 gale, anchored inside Hurst with a 30lb CQR and a 20lb Danforth. We survived and didn't move in a 27' Trimaran.
The key in my opinion, is to chose your holding, dig the anchor in, and let out plenty of scope with enough " snubbing warp", and then use as much of the rode as possible for the conditions. It is useless sitting in the anchor locker.
I note, that Tom Cunliffe down South uses a big CQR for his nights for sleeping.

Go cruising always on the hook for a good few months in many different areas with a CQR then another few months with a new gen, you'll go for anyone who tries to swap the new gen back for the useless cqr with a winch handle :)
The difference is night and day

I like old Tom , shame here didn't mention what it's like to pull all that stuff up while trying to get a quick get away as your trying to get a quick get away.

Use to use one but not bothered for years after one very windy night in 40 plus kits with a another boat dragging at spend towards us .
