Dehumidifier DD8L

Noted from the manual.
Smell coming from the dehumidifier:

When you first use the dehumidifier and periodically afterwards you might notice a smell coming from the dehumidifier. This is caused by the Zeolite desiccant material and is not a sign that the dehumidifier is faulty, nor is it harmful to humans or pets. The smell occurs because the Zeolite absorbs odours from items like cigarettes, cosmetics, hair sprays, building materials and new furniture and then when the desiccant is heated the smell is discharged into the room. This smell has been described as being like a burning smell or a sour smell. It is normal, will not last long and is not a sign of a fault. You can clear it by running the dehumidifier in a separate space like a garage or if it is dry – outside.

Wasn't me mate. I'm careful not to smoke when fridge raiding
Can anybody please tell me if the
dd8l uses 12 volts or other sipply internally ? That is, can I hope to run it on a 12v battery without need of an inverter if I get inside and wire to internal supply?
TIA

Mine was 240v
Thanks for that. Internally the 240v will be converted to a lower voltage d.c. for use of the various components, and if this was 12v dc then I (and we all) could run direct from external battery, bypassing the converter. Unlikely but good if it is so.

I doubt you could run directly from 12v, for example the fan is probably 240v. IIRC last winter on low/medium setting mine was using around 300watts when running, I know its not continual depending on humidity but you would need a huge battery capacity - say 30 amps load @ 12v for 6hrs per day.............

Last winter running the dd8L dehumidifier for 8 hrs daily , and sometimes every other day, was sufficient
It does cut in and out , as said .
But even so it would soon munch though the capacity of a battery.
If no shore power is available some other approach is required .

And a further question if I may...does anyone know if an inverter would need to be Pure Sine or Modified Sine to operate dd8l safely?

I’ve just been reminded to plug mine back in - the Zambezi model - and it doesn’t smell although it’s prob. Been 6months plus since it was last used. A quick question re the laundry mode though - should there be another heat source to help the drying process as I’m thinking of using a specific cabin just for drying clothes as although I have a washing m/c I don’t have a dryer and I don’t plan on adding one

Nope it does all the work itself, just try and keep the room sealed.
We are currently using one to dry clothes on one of them ceiling mounted airers, seems to be working okay if a little slow, but way cheaper than the clothes dryer.

I’ve had a chance to try it in anger now in ‘laundry mode’ and it’s excellent. As you say just keep the cabin closed and let it do it’s thing.
