would this yacht make a good cruser, the engine sits on the keel and weighs about 5.5 t so is she more of a racer than cruser. What would be the standard of the build quality?
Dehler has been through a number of owners now, but in general the build quality is perfectly good. A survey would point out any shortcomings on a particular boat, should they exist.
In any event you don't hear much in the way of complaints about Dehlers, and if there were weaknesses I'm sure you would.
I have a 1986 Dehler22 which is/was the baby of the fleet and quite basic. Its still quite well made and thought out though.
I have a dehler 38 no problem with the build, the engine under the table is good for working on it, access all round. A bit noisy in the cabin and slightly cramped around the table but after that I can not fault it, sails very well.
We had a dehler 38 15 years ago.We like it a lot and when on to buy a
41ds.
The self tacking jib was great very easy to sail. The engine is mounted on a
metal frame and is integrale to the boats build.Access to the engine has got to be the
best!
Electric cental winch system works very well.
The only downside is a cramped forcabin.
I think the design and build quaility was ahead of its time so go and enjoy
the 38..
