Definition of a "Classic"

Re: Definition of a \"Classic\"

Genuine Hassler SP2 I think is the model.

Does it work, I have not tried it yet, but I assume it does as it found the East coast of America, West Indies, Azors , Gib, and back to the UK.

I will tell you next April how it works, but I gather it has been ok in all wind conditions, and the previous owners sailed hard.

Re: Definition of a \"Classic\"

I think there is a lot of nonsense talked about what is and isn't a classic boat. If she's a classic in her owner's eyes then a classic she is.

Anything is a classic if its owner and one other person think it is.

Not necessarily, they could both just have very bad taste! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Classic def : Anything where annual maintenance & running costs exceed a likely future sale price by at least a factor of 5 ....

Works for cars & boats every time. Try it /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

I've always sailed old boats because I like them. I dont ask anybody to describe it for me. If you think its a classic then its a classic. There is a lot of b******t talked on this subject.

Re: Definition of a \"Classic\"

The main aspect of a classic boat is that it's a very stable investment. You can spend 10000 quid on a classic boat and then 6 thousand a year "restoring" it for five years and be 100% confident it's still worth 10000 quid.

Re: Definition of a \"Classic\"

When i asked my mate a dragon sailor the difference between a modern and a classic dragon he summed it up thus

"A classic takes on a bucket of water very hour"

i suspect that is a general rule for most wooden boats
