Deben Entrance, buoys now re-positioned for 2022.

The new Deben entrance buoy positions as of 19th April are shown below, Harwich tide height 0.4m.

It appears that the West Knoll may have been put on the bar and the Knoll Spit has been moved off the bar! Will see if I can go to the West Knoll position with a stick to check, or look on the echo sounder when launched.

Thanks Cantana for confirmation that this all agrees with the ECP chartlet and Trinity House's specified survey positions.

John

We went out today (having come in on Monday) and indeed the buoys were in completely different positions. We followed the buoyage (having read this thread beforehand) both times without going too close to the green.
Today we went out approx 2.5 hours before HW and the lowest depth we saw was 2m in the troughs. Was reasonably bouncy with a 15knot NEasterly and a flood tide. Lowest depth was between the two reds at the entrance.
The buoyage now makes much more sense than it did on Monday and the chartlet is great.
Now watching the seals in the backwaters. (3 hours Waldringfield SC to Oakley Creek).

So now it is all correct can we ask how the cock up happened or is that a taboo subject
Suggest you ask Trinity House, who performed the survey and laid the buoys.
Or perhaps you shouldn't, as they might turn round and say blow you lot, we don't have to do this, and if you're going to criticise we won't be doing it any more....................

I feel incredibly fortunate to have the surveys, buoys, chartlets, photographs and videos provided by such generous and dedicated people to help me navigate the East Coast safely. Thank you.

Absolutely!
In any case what does it matter - it was obviously a mistake (we all make them) and crucially it has quickly been put right.
.

So not allowed to ask and potentially understand and learn then
What is there to understand and learn? Your not in the business of laying bouys or charting sandbanks. From yourperspective you have all the info you need. It wasnt placed in the right spot, and thats now been sorted, end of story.

Quite a strange world when asking a question seems to be Taboo. Just interested that is all seems that is not allowed. Never mind as you say they seem to be in the right place now.

Is asking a question criticising in your view.

In the context in which the question would be being asked, yes.

The terms in which you are suggesting the question is posed doesn't help either, does it?

How?
It's not like Trinity House to make a mistake but the Deben is rather different to many places in that positioning of a bouy may need an accuracy of five metres or so. If the bottom is sloping sand or shingle I can easily imagine the current swirling around the sinker and undermining it so it slips one way or another - and we've seen the turbulence around that sinker.

How lucky we are to have such dedicated people, amateurs and profesionals, providing this service for us.
