Thinking of putting my boat there for the winter as determined to stay afloat this year and have decided to treat myself to a pontoon berth (swinging mooring normally). Anyone kept a boat there recently?

I think you're probably right there. It works out almost exactly the same per month as Shotley's winter afloat price. I like the fact that there's no locking in/out at Debbages. I quite like Shotley Marina to be honest, but I live much closer to Debbages and the thought of that long drive to Shotley puts me off. I've always found the village a bit depressing for some reason.

MDL at Woolverstone quite a bit more than Shotley and Debbages for winter afloat. Will give Foxes a ring tomorrow.

Well worth ringing Foxs. I found their winter afloat deal very competitive last year and was very happy with the provision.

When I rang about same the previous year they were profoundly uninterested. Said something like they didn't think they'd have space (for my 23 footer!), but didn't offer to find out or get back to me if availability arose.

Short answer is 'yes'.
This is where sailorman, or maybe someone else like CCJ, could step in and tell you about the Foxs Marina YC.

I was hoping to engage someone like CCJ’s interest. I guess FMYC doesn’t exist anymore, shame it’s closed down.

Foxes, Debbages and Shotley all pretty much the same for winter afloat this year. Shotley is a bit cheaper, Woolverstone quite a bit more - not sure why? Foxes probably makes the most sense - I live about 5 minutes from it.

I'd do anything to avoid the looooooooong drive to Shotley. The agonising 15 minutes drive through the dreary countryside, looking at the dreadful views across the river (in places) is truly horrendous. The hour and a half chug along the Orwell would be much more preferable and it would be nice if the trip to the Deben had to be spread over two legs, rather than the silly 3 hours it takes from Shotley.

[Sarcasm mode : off]

Fair points all. But also to be considered is the noise and light of the docks. Not to mention the soot. We kept one of our work boats there for two months last year - it was my job to clean it off.

Shotley do the cheapest deal though, so knowing me, that'll clinch it!

No one loves Shotley like those at Shotley - ergo it is the best marina in the world because it makes it's customers extraordinarily happy, and happiness is the most valuable commodity. Viva Shotley!
