Looking at some of the postings does the panel agree that we may be in danger of becoming cliquey? A new guy arrives and instead of making him welcome we chase him out. Surely the time to extract the urine is when someone is established and comfortable with the peculiar brand of humour sometimes shown here.
As to denigrating a Dude's boat, far better you suggest his wife is on the game... it's less insulting. Anyway what is wrong with Bayliners? They must be doing something right they sell enough of them.

Just because Bayliner sell lots doesn't mean they're doing anything right. The key point to remember is they're American and let's not forget that's the same country that likes to buy estate cars with large pieces of artificial wood nailed on the side, thinks that a pick up truck is a sensible alternative to a sports car and assumes that car's don't need to go round corners (even alleged sports cars such as the Corvette handle like...... well a Bayliner I suppose).

I can only assume that these same discerning standards applied when purchasing a car apply equally when chosing a boat.

I wonder if that nationality thing which charecterises cars applies more generally to boats? Italian boats almost always look sexy and sleek like their cars but are they as unreliable? Bitish boats can be variable with some boring stuff at the bottom end but the best is comparable with anything made anywhere else. French boats are probably slightly off beat but have character and lots of comfort. Where are the Germans though? No doubt there will be a whole host of well made but slightly dull Japanese ones on sale soon.

Oh, and I agree about the cliquey thing, but you can't let someone buy an ugly boat can you?

numbers sold doesn't necessarily mean they're any good - the best selling car in the UK for years was the Ford Escort!

I couldn't believe the guy was serious as he was suggesting using household gloss paint on the hull! everybody knows you should use emulsion as there's a much better choice of pastels

Byron, thanks for the comments. Everyone is entitled to their subjective opinion but you'll find there are plenty of Bayliner owners questioning peoples' sanity at spending twice or more for the same piece of real estate in the water. Perhaps they would like to speak up now but the danger of the past 24 hours is that some of you might be suggesting that their opinions are not welcome here...which doesn't represent our aims I would hasten to add.

Couldn't agree more, I have been lurking around this board for a couple of years now, I don't really see it as a way of making new friends or a sort of cyber yacht club. It is simply a forum for exchange of views and knowledge, I try to make the odd post to answer questions I feel knowledgable about but avoid the banter.
Some threads go off on a complete tangent from the original subject when familiar names get involved sometimes it is amusing but often boring, I think this apparent
familiarity with other users puts a lot of newcomers off.
Unfortunately you have to take it as you find it, it is a shame though that some people seem to try to force their opinions on others.

As for Bayliners, I just consider myself a BOAT enthusiast, I have hired or owned over the years, Narrowboats, Rag and Sticks, dingys and Motor boats on the river and sea, I would consider a Bayliner if I liked the look of it and it suited my needs and price restictions, although something slightly better built (a Broom perhaps) would be my preference ;-)

Woooah!! That was an inside job

Byron I agree your sentiments entirely but re yesterday there is no way, repeat NO WAY, that Duncan was a newbie. He was one of us, ditto Norbert. So no harm done yesterday. See my post in reply to Kim on the other thread

Are you sure? All of the likely suspects are running away from this one. Anyway, does it matter? I think it made the point that we might want to think before flaming.

Re: Yup

"Am I sure" did you say? Yes, I'm sure.

Come on Graham...Miami Vice, Bayliner Montego, P38

If I'm proven wrong I will donate a full dockside petrol fill up to Duncan :)

Re: nice wheels Graham....

You're not taking me seriously, here, I suspect. Who the hell ever heard of teak on a motorbike? Besides, the seat's already modified with a big 'Live to Ride!!' sticker on the back...

but Graham...

didn't you see the fully road registered Lotus Seven replica done out totally in varnished wood at the SBS the other week? - it was being used as a promo for an epoxy treatment the name of which escapes me but the car was lovely!!

Nah, don't believe in wood. Spawn of the Devil - they make yachts out of it.

Well I thought it was a wind up anyway and even if not He started by slagging us off first.
I was unfortunate enough to own an American petrol engined
boat about 12 years ago and it was just thrown together with the floor nailed down over the engine.
Water comming in through every window and if a wave ever hit the screen it would have been sat on my knee!!
