Dale pontoon

Nice one..cheers Tico.
How's things with you mate?...reason I ask about the pontoon is I may be doing a night session fishing around the Dakotian wreck, then tie up to the pontoon for a few hours kip before running back up to Neyland in the morning..

Pretty good thanks.
SeaDream has been sold so I'm now running round in a RIB for a while.
I wouldn't recommend the outer pontoon if there is any Easterly or a big tide as you end up bouncing back and forward on the pontoon.
Better to pick up a mooring.

It was smooth as silk out on the outer pontoon 2 nights ago but I have been there when it snaked up and down like a fairground ride. We went to landing stage pontoon to get late supper at the Gryphon (expensive but good) and considered picking up a mooring when we left, but despite the south easterly the outer pontoon was fine so we went there to chat with the other visitors. It was a meagre tide and wind was dropping from original F5 to nearer F3

Coming down to Dale in August. Last time down we stayed in the Milford Haven Marina. This time I fancy Dale.

Are moorings generally available? I thought that they were all private.

They are but if you pick up late at night midweek you probably wont be disturbed. If you can dry out you can stay on landing pontoon overnight which makes going to YC or Pub so much easier. The outer pontoon is big enough for may eight or ten boats, or Challenge Wales plus a smaller number, and rarely that bouncy. If its strong south easterly consider anchoring in West Angle instead

Strangely enough we headed towards Dale Pirate day on Saturday morning but it was cold & grey so went up to Black Tar instead.
When things improved in the afternoon, down for a pint at The Point House.... live music and sunshine.

Fingers crossed for this w/e

They are private as others have said but much is possible by arrangement with Dale yacht club.

I’ve been on the outer pontoon when wash from the Irish ferry has had the boat smashing back and forth in otherwise quiet conditions. It’s okay but if you’re stopping for dinner and and a night it’s not the best option
