Curious craft - where is it and what is it?

Spotted this on a weekend away.

Any ideas? Obviously something to do with the marina - but what and how? This marina didn't seem to have piles (if you know what I mean...)

Maybe the idea is that some bloke parks this in the middle of the sea, some unwary craft moor up on it, then he pushes all the owners overboard, then drives away with all the craft attached.

Used by the marina to position the new pontoons prior to anchoring to sea bed.......its simply a pontoon with outboard for propulsion!!

Looks like a mooring laying pontoon to me. The hole in the middle is where the heavy mooring weight would be suspended.

I assume it would be used with another barge, and this is just for the guys to stand on and guide the weight? Otherwise the whole thing would just flip.

If it's in Scotland, could it be a vessel for short term storage of farmed salmon, or for moving them from one enclosure to another? I can't see it being used to lay moorings - where would you put the lifting gear?

It's obviously the new breed of stealth MOBO. You go into any marina, moor up and nobody can see that you are there.

Like it - there is a salmon farm round the corner in the other bay.

Still no takers on where it is...

Marina has no piles, therefore no tide, therefore Med or Baltic - by the look of it, Baltic.

Mylor marina also has no piles. Tidal range is over 5m. Fixed using very big rubber bands.
