I was delighted to read his bit about Malcolm Robsons pilot books, I still have his French Pilots Volume 1 and 2. I can't remember to which bit of coast he was referring to, but it was one of those north going passages to take, if brave, when the tides flowing South. After some of his standard leading marks, point of land with rock etc., he then says something like, "keep a cable off the lighthouse and wave to the astonished lighthouse keepers as you pass by!"
Would that I were brave enough.
