Having just returned from a little more than a fortnight of cruising round the southwest of Ireland I thought I might mention that there are no real formalities, customs officers may or may not ask for details but that’s about all.
one thing that may be of interest is that the further west you go early in the year (before mid June) the quieter it will be right to the point of not open. If you’re looking for entertainment namely a good craic it’s not that easy to find when drinking establishments are either firmly closed or only open Friday Saturday and Sunday, better to wait for the six week Irish summer.

if you want perfect peace and quiet everywhere you go then go early but be prepared for dodging weather

I've never known an Irish bar to be properly closed, it's just a matter of finding the person with the keys and offering them a drink...
