Did we once meet in Ilfracombe yacht club bar? I sat one chai away from one end of the bar and a chap sailing in a small boat came and sat in the end chair. He'd been away from home for a month. I moved down a chair and he did too. I moved down another and damn me he followed. Long before I got near the last chair I could stand it no longer and moved away from the bar. He had a no-go zone round him.

No! My personal hygiene is fine thanks!!

September YM tells me there is the new J111s.

A J111 hull with a simplified deck set up and interior, more ballast, tiller. Says it's for two handed sailing.

£60,000 sounds cheap, can that be right?

Hmmmm. 3 year old j111 is about £160k on yachtworld! I don't think that is right! I keep seeing price mistakes in the mags. Shame we can't hold them to it!

I'm taking SWMBO for a four day Potter around the Solent this weekend. I'm actually nervous about it. Normally I have five crew to do everything, now I'm either going to have to do it or teach her. I have to book the berths - normally the race organiser does it.

I'm so out of practice with this stuff it's actually worrying me! Racing is far less stressful.

Apparently we need a duvet? And sheets and pillows? The water tank hasn't been used for five years - god knows if it leaks. And she is worried about keeping drinks cool. We don't even have a coolbox.

It'll be a relief to get the crew back and do some nice relaxing racing the following week

I bought my boat 2 years ago for cruising amd racing. Due to lack of family enthusiasm I have ended up racing more than cruising. So little by little I am removing all the cruising stuff from the boat. I was even wondering about replacing the anchor chain with rope! Soon there will be nothing left!!

I'm sort of coming from the opposite direction. When we bought Magic she had been set up for cruising. We sailed her as was for a year to make sure we didn't need what we thought we wouldn't need, then stripped her.
