With infections rising rapidly in Croatia as a result of 'imports' from Bosnia and Serbia, Slovenia has closed the doors and there are long queues at the border to get into Slovenia. The border guards are checking not just on passports but on 'proof' that the bearers have been only to Croatia and not further east (they check on hotel/restaurant bills, parking tickets etc). Slovenia itself has seen a rise in numbers, all of them coming from Croatia or points east.
This the current situation for an EU national (and including Brits until December).
Heading into Croatia: you need to fill the form available from entercroatia.mup.hr. This requires dates of entry and exit and more. You need to present this at the Croatian border along with a hotel or other booking or proof of ownership of house or boat. If you have all this, there are preferential lanes at some border points to expedite things (Rupa on the road towards Rijeka and Sicciole for Istria).
Leaving Croatia: keep any hotel receipts or proof that you were in Croatia for the time you left Slovenia and not merely transiting to, say, Serbia. You then have 12 hours to pass through Slovenia to a third country and may stop only for petrol and physiological needs.
Italy/Austria to/from Slovenia: Schengen applies.
This as of 5 July, but will advise if things change.
