Crisis, help urgently needed.

That was unkind. What use would third party insurance be for damage to his own boat?

go back to bed - get out the other side - now is that better?

It wasn't a very sympathetic response.

It is a warning to others though.
Third Party insurance is exactly what is needed to protect you against recover and clean-up claims. Even on Windermere insurance is very important. The days when you just left your boat at the bottom of the lake and walked away are long gone.

Wait till the idiot goes out & bashes into your boat & see how you feel
Or do you have a boat that does not show any additional damage

I am quite happy to stand by what i say

True it is hard luck loosing a boat but i have no sympathy for idiots wandering about uninsured

Still if he has a house you could always claim that in damages

The boat may have been uninsured against loss, but that may not mean that there was no third party cover. Did the OP say that? In any event criticism is unhelpful. The OP mentioned that his son was a lifeboatman. I hope that if he contacts the Blackpool lifeboat crew they will help him, possibly on a personal basis if this is something they cannot do officially.

The owner of the boat has had really bad luck, and I hope his next news is better.

The only "idiot" is you pal - a simple apology for your crass post would have sufficed, but you've dug yourself deeper and compounded it.

Someone young, and perhaps a tad foolhardy OR unable to afford insurance, has just lost their home and dreams through no fault of their own, and you, like some pedantic prick, come along and rub their face in it. Nice. Real nice.

Please crawl back under the stone., there's a good chap.

And if you want to "bless" us with you views on insurance please start another thread rather than hijacking a forumites plea for urgent help.

I reckon you are the sort of uncaring pedant that would stand idly by while someone hurts themselves and then proclaim that it was all their own fault.

It is so sad that you get your jollies this way.

Now go away you horrid pathetic excuse for a human being.

Very sad news but hang on . The boat concern is a heavy ol' bit of kit and to use it irrespective of whether the owner can or cannot afford the insurance is irresponsible to say the least.
The OP does say that it isnt insured and therefore implies that is also no third party cover. I hope I'm wrong because pollution ,wreck removal and prevention of Quay use can be very expensive .

Sad end to a dream but facts are facts.

Agreed - and no matter how much insurance the owner has the boat will, sadly, STILL be 12ft down underwater.

Graham: please keep us up to date on how things are progressing.

well said could not have said it better

Sometimes diving clubs can be very helpful, they like having something meaningful to do, but the safety side needs addressing, not good going inside the hull. If the HM can lower the water to deck level she could be pumped out.

I've watched the YouTube presentation of "Andromeda" and I reckon that, sadly, if it's been submerged there'll simply be nothing worth salvaging. It was obviously a "dream" project, as the concept of using it as a tripper boat and floating B&B on Loch Ness seems fanciful, to say the least. What I can't understand. like others, is how anyone could buy something like that and not insure it. I don't know what its "value" is, but comprehensive insurance on my boat (with 85K agreed value) is only about £300. I hope there's a happy resolution to this sad tale, and that the ABP people take a sympathetic attitude to the costs of pollution containment and wreck removal.

Another uninsured one. By the sound of it
No ! I do not apologise & i do not retract my statement
I suppose you agree with driving an uninsured car
Is there any difference?
Yes he has lost his home & that is hard luck but the situation he finds himself was pretty predictable if you think about it ( not how it happened but the problems that would arise afterwards once it did)

Agree 100% But it depends "if one can afford to loose the money" & pay for the clear-up

Couldn't of put it better myself, well said, my thoughts exactly. Wish I was closer so I could lend a hand, good luck with the salvage and take care!

I expect that with a boat like his he probably took a crew when he moved it
So you would be quite happy if there was an accident & someone had to tell a widow with 2 kids that her husband had drowned & there was to be no compensation as the boat was un insured

You objectors to my post just do not get it do you!! How would the post have developed then? All in favour of the skipper--- i think not---- Throwing insults insults at me because you have not thought this through shows a total shortsightedness

Of course it is unfortunate but a lot of what happens afterwards is just a result of a lack of basic common sense & one finds it difficult to have any sympathy whatsoever.
People do not need an A level to realise such things.
